Playroom Project

Playroom Project cover photo.jpg

We are settling into our new house which means designing new spaces. The room I was most excited to makeover is the room above the garage. As soon as I saw it I knew it would be the perfect play/study room. Our kids are 3,6 and 8 which means we needed this room to be multifunctional; reading, crafting, playing, building and doing homework. No TV. I absolutely love designing these kinds of spaces. You have to be realistic about how your kids use the space, not how you want them to use it. I wanted a rug to tie all the pieces together and love this one from Amazon. Not too thick or loud, just compliments the room. My kids are crafters so a large workspace and materials are necessary. They love to cuddle and read books, hence the giant bean bag. They like to spread out to build and play games so we need floor space that isn’t too crowded. We need a lot of storage for books so we have two matching ones in this playroom. Because we have so many books, I feel like the kids can’t see them very well on the bookshelves so every couple of weeks I will rotate the ones on display by the bean bag. This has already worked out great as we have re-disocvered some really great ones. We practice letters, spelling and math on the dry erase and magnetic board. The balance board was originally for an indoor activity but it has turned out to be pretty versatile. The kids lay in it, rock on it, use it a surf board, a ramp for cars, a sled (those two tiny stairs are coming in handy) and a building base. We painted the walls white (which believe me was questioned by my husband) but it really brightened up the room. It is easily everyone’s favorite room in the house. If we aren’t outside then you can find us here.

I am planning to add pictures of the kids on the walls and maybe a few others small items but this is what we have so far.

What is in your dream play area? What has worked for you and what didn’t turn out the way you hoped? Love to hear from you all.
