My Crew

You can see a messy kitchen or you can see joyful chefs. You can see a messy basement or you can see incredible engineers. You can see a messy living room or you can see loving siblings. Enjoy the season of life you are in today for tomorrow you will miss these days. Yell less, worry less, stress less. Cuddle more, laugh more, play more, listen more. Who says messy has to be a bad thing. Find the joy!

Hello, my name is Alexis. I have been married for 10 years and have 3 kids. I run a tight ship at home. Haha, who am I kidding! Some days are glorious and others I am in complete survival mode. I did have a blog a couple years ago that was actually gaining some traction but on Christmas eve I accidentally deleted the entire blog. Seriously, all those stories I was writing for my children were lost. Since that fateful day, I have had a very hate hate relationship with technology. But I decided the past is in the past (so hard not to sing that part, thanks Frozen) and it was time to start documenting again. Hey, I even figured out how to transfer my domain name to this new site. Things are looking up. Now if only I could find the rogue socks my pile of laundry.

This blog is about life as a parent, the ins and outs and ups and downs. The other main part of my blog is BOOKS! My parents would make sure we read every single day, even during the summer. I would sit on the bottom bunk in my room and happily open my book, ready for the next adventure.

When I became a parent, my love for reading blossomed further, wanting to buy every book in Barnes and Noble. Homeschooling our kids took my passion for books to the next level.

We no longer homeschool but I am still knee deep in piles of books all over my house. Every room has a basket or bookshelf brimming with great books, and even a few fluff books. I’m a huge fan of Sarah Mackenzie and her Read Aloud Revival movement. Her podcast has a plethora of wonderful information on books, reading, authors and general knowledge of kids development, both “normal” and those outside the scope.

Picture books are not just for children. If you don’t believe me, go to the Books Review section and check out Maybe, The Uncorker of Ocean Bottles, The Boy Who Spoke to the Earth…just to name a few. I often find myself getting choked up reading these books, and connecting in a very different way than my children.

Here you will find information about books, activities, conversations, resources and moments in life that have caused me to reflect. If we all work together then this parenting thing isn’t as scary, right?

If you like what you read here, I hope you’ll consider joining us on our hechtic (see what I did there) and joy filled journey. Suggestions and comments are always invited!
