Be You
Be You
Peter H. Reynolds
Before you read any further, if you live in the Denver area, make sure you read all the way to the bottom of the post. The author will be here in CO!
This book has not been released yet but I was given a copy early. The first time it was read to me was by another adult at a book event. I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes from the opening page through the last. (Look for it at your school's upcoming book fair or on Amazon.)
The words are simple enough for a child but somehow reach out and grab adults. It's moving, beautiful, inspirational and a celebration of individuality.
A few people have compared it to, "Oh the places you'll go." For me it's not a comparison but more of a companion book. Be You should be read often to your children, treated more like a daily mantra. And the words are such wonderful reminders for adults who often deal with insecurity, finding your place in this world, dealing with friendship, etc. Everyone can relate to this book so it's definitely one that should be on your personal bookshelf.
My kids had this to say when I finished reading it to them.
5 yo: Be yourself because that’s the only way to be!
7 yo: Try new things even if other people say no. Be you! Oh and it's okay to want to do different things.
Peter Reynolds has written several other bestsellers including, Happy Dreamer, Say Something, The Word Collector and The Dot and Ish.
