One Morning in Maine

Robert McCloskey

This book gives you a chance to look through a window into everyday life in Maine. Sal digs for clams, sails with her father and talks to the seagulls all while dealing with a loose and then missing tooth. The story is captivating and the illustrations immediately make you dream of spending a day on the coast. If you are from Maine or vacation there you will feel right at home. My family used to vacation in Wisconsin in the summer and the trees and waterfront very much remind of that wonderful week. We would make smore's by the campfire, ride bikes down the dirt paths, race each other through the trees, take the pontoon boat out and fly through the air on the rope swing over the water.

Robert McCloskey (1914-2003) wrote and illustrated some of the most honored and enduring children's books ever published. He wrote and also illustrated nine picture books, and won two Caldecott Medals from the American Library Association for the year's best-illustrated picture book. Some of these books include, Make Way for Ducklings, Time of Wonder and Blueberries for Sal.
