A captivating exploration of how a family gets their farm ready for winter. Getting food ready for the winter markets, protecting the strawberry plants with hay, stacking wood by the house to keep them warm, covering the baby greens with sheets, setting the light on a timer for the hens and many other interesting chores. It helps the child realize our deep ties to the farmer and his/her work. The story is beautifully illustrated to match the mood of life on a farm, throughout all the seasons.
ACTIVITY: This year we will planting our first vegetable garden. It’s too early to plant anything here in CO but we do need to clean up and prepare our garden area. The kids will help decide what we plant and who will be responsible for each one. We are so excited to start this adventure and it will be a wonderful reminder of where our food comes from and the work it takes to produce healthy food. Another option is to play a matching game of food that comes from a farm/garden and different ways we see it in a store. Peanuts become peanut butter, milk from a cow can become ice cream, etc.
